Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph feels that director of football Damien Comolli will be held responsible for any unsuccessful signings this summer, not manager Kenny Dalglish.
He feels that Comolli is the main force behind a Liverpool transfer strategy that has so far seen Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson signed for large transfer fees. And with countless other players linked with moves to Anfield, there are expected to be a number of other summer recruits.
“This is a bigger summer for Comolli than it is for Dalglish,” he explains. “I think Dalglish is involved in all these signings, but I think they have Comolli’s print on them if you look at the sort of players.
“He’s almost replicating what he did at Tottenham, but at a higher premium. If you look at the younger players he brought in at Tottenham, he’s doing that similarly with young, British players at Liverpool, but paying a lot more for them.
“So, if this doesn’t work, then he will carry the can, not Kenny Dalglish.”
